Bilkis Bano is an Indian women from Gujarat who is the victim of gang rape by Hindu terrorists during the 2002 Gujarat Riot. She was 5 months pregnant on that time, moreover, 14 of her family members were killed including her 3 years old girl child. She appealed for an exemplary compensation while refusing to accept the Gujarat government offer of Rs 5 lakh.

In 2004, Supreme court transferred this case to CBI. In 2008, a special court ordered life time imprisonment for 11 violators for rape and murder. The High court on 2017 convicted 5 policemen and 2 doctors who were alleged to support violators and for destroying the evidences.

In April 2019, Supreme court ordered to block the retirement pension for the 4 retired police men and de-promote the fifth policemen (IPS) who did not investigate the case properly. The Supreme court also ordered Gujarat Government to provide 50 lakh compensation along with a government job to Bilkis.

Later, all 11 men who got arrested on gang rape case was released on 15th August 2022 (Monday) from Godhra Jail. The Gujarat government allowed their release under its remission policy.
